| Online Casino Industry Taken on by the Turks 24 Jan 2007 According to reports, the Turkish authorities have decided to apply a law which is being considered ‘controversial’ against online casino crime to online casinos and online gambling. The law, Penal Code Article 301, will be applied strictly as has been stated by the Turkish newspaper, Yeni Safak. The law will enable the Technology Security Agency to block any online casino sites that it deems illegal and indecent for Turkish citizens. Yet again, government officials have decided to censor the online casino industry and the Internet. The law, which is meant to combat child abuse, indecent broadcasts, and other things of this nature, has been stretched to obstruct other broadcasts. The law, in its own way, accuses Turkish citizens of not being responsible enough to make their own decisions with regards to online casino gaming. This is surely infuriating to online casino fans in this country. With how the online casino world is being integrated into other European countries, as well as New Zealand, it is difficult for many Turks to deal with the fact that their country is banning online gambling. The punishments are quite exaggerated, with Orhan Pamuk, a free thinking Nobel Prize winner, being prosecuted for his opinions. Hopefully, for the Turkish online casino fans in the nation, this country will legalize and regulate online casino gaming as the British and Italians have. The onus will be placed on ISP’s to block offending sites. In addition, legal action will be taken against the owners of offending online casino sites if possible. | |
